The future is always in front of us, brimming with of possibilities — and flying cars, of course. Since well before the days of Nostradamus, humanity has sought to predict the ways of our successors. “And now, believe it or not the floor is automatically cleaned, too. What you see coming out of the wall is a self-propelled floor cleaner.” Sometimes, their concepts proved to be startlingly accurate, like this ’60s version of Amazon… “Please send it out to me, here’s my credit card, oh, and don’t forget the striped pillow cases.” But most often, their visions were off by several light years. Fred Freedman’s fantastic future The 1960s were rife with soothsayers dreaming up humankind a Jetsons-like reality.
Noted “futurist” Fred Freedman pictured the far away year of 1999, with humans rocking rocket belts and hover-cars as we zipped around our sweet mid-century modern cities. These days, hover cars are still less-probable than cars that drive themselves. “Hello, tower, this is Firebird 2304. Firebird 2304.” But if there was anything Freeman did get right, it was moving sidewalks. We only really get to enjoy them at the airport, but, nevertheless, there’s something magical about cruising along a little bit faster than the foot traffic next to you. Edison bets on heavy metal Without a doubt, Thomas Edison was one of the most brilliant inventors of the early 20th century. Known for the long-lasting light bulb, the phonograph, and the Kinetoscope, he lit the way for the high-tech contemporary culture we treasure today. “Look at Edison over there with his damn electricity. Hey Edison, how about sharing some of those damn lightbulbs, eh?” “Figure it out for yourself, man!” But Edison’s prediction regarding the future of construction material rang a bit hollow: he claimed the future belonged to steel.
Every aspect of our homes would be “sumptuously equipped with” the dense, metallic alloy. “This is the kitchen of tomorrow. A press-button dream coming true for Mrs. Housewife.” If Edison had only foisted the mantle of the future onto petroleum byproducts, he’d have chalked another notch on his prophetic belt. “Gasoline is the fuel that powers this modern age.” The Martian Chronicler falls short Responsible for dozens of short stories, and classic novels like Fahrenheit 451 and several film adaptations and inspirations, Ray Bradbury took science fiction mainstream. “For over twenty years, he has predicted and examined the joys and nightmares of the coming age of the rocket.” You’ve probably heard of The Butterfly Effect (loosely inspired by his story “A Sound of Thunder”) as well as the disquieting Disney adaptation of his seminal work, Something Wicked This Way Comes.
Then there’s his highly influential sci-fi saga The Martian Chronicles, which documented colonial life on the planet Mars. “There that’s better. You do speak English.” “I do now.” Back in 1950, the prolific author predicted that nuclear war would force us onto Mars by the 2000s. Unfortunately, we never got our Martian utopia going, but at least we launched that rover thingy, right? “It’s so quiet. Kind of eerie. Gives me the creeps.” Wonder women of the future “One dress of the future will consist of transparent net. The net, uh, probably to catch the males.” In the past, “women of the future” predictions were usually hotbeds for dusting off sexist, Mad Men-like tropes of the 1950s with men joking about how lazy their wives would get after robot maids, cooks, and butlers replaced household chores. “Everything is copacetic. Welcome to the future.” But early feminist ideas snuck into the general populace during the Father Knows Best decade.
In 1950, Associated Press writer Dorothy Roe claimed (with science to back her up) that all women of the future would top off at six feet. “Attack of the 50 foot woman. Incredibly huge. With incredible desires for love and vengeance.” Not only that, but they’d sport superheroine-esque proportions and dress like Wonder Woman, with, quote, “muscles like a truck driver,” so they could compete in male sporting events and work in traditionally male jobs. “In the future, I hope to do things such as go to school, study, make art, start a business.” Modern women are, indeed, competing in sports like baseball and “prizefighting,” and have been liberated from the kitchen. But perhaps Roe’s most off-the-mark prediction is that humans of the future will cut out food altogether, eating instead only “food capsules.” You need only to peek inside a Chipotle during the lunch rush to see how that didn’t at all pan out. Beardos from the year 2000 In 1939, Vogue imagined what their own future-man might look like, style-wise, running a conceptualization of the 21st century man. Visually vetted by designer Gilbert Rohde, the future dude revolts against shaving (ok, this actually happened), he favors a button-less full-body jumpsuit, and Bro 2000 now rocks his belt-storage — the fanny-pack of the future! So, Vogue predicted a future of M.C.
Hammer hipsters. It could still happen! “When the music is really pumpin that’s my time to dance really hard.” The New York Times’ future fail Conan O’Brien wasn’t the first transplant to cast predictions of the future about the Big Apple. “Johnson & Johnson will replace its ‘no more tears’ baby shampoo with the much more useful ‘no more poo that looks like mustard’ baby shampoo.” Back in 1950, the New York Times featured a piece by science editor Waldemar Kaempffert entitled “Miracles You’ll See In The Next Fifty Years.” After talking to a few notable scientists, ol’ Kaempy penned a few wild ideas about what life in the year 2000 might look like — and a few of his futuristic miracles actually match up, such as the dominance of TV dinners and the rise of computers. “Teaching machines… which allow him to progress as rapidly as his awakening mind can absorb the audio visual lesson.” But not all his ideas hit the mark. There was the diet consisting primarily of sawdust, with dinner served exclusively on single use paper plates, in a house-full of waterproof furnishings.
Best of all, our disposable rayon underpants were recyclable, and later became colorful candy for the kids (seriously). “Do you know what this means? It means that this damn thing doesn’t work at all.” Thanks for watching! Click the Grunge icon to subscribe to our YouTube channel. Plus check out all this cool stuff we know you’ll love, too!.

JUHA UOTILA: All right. So I’m Juha from Hookle. You may remember– SPEAKER 1: Excuse me, sir. JUHA UOTILA: You may remember my business partners praising Flutter during the keynote speech, and I’m here to keep it up. So I’ll talk a bit about Flutter from the perspective of software development in a high-growth startup company. So we are a young company. We just started five months ago. And we’re really trying to go light speed. And my idea is to develop a mobile social media management app that would be easy to use, smooth user interface, and so on. So basically, our strategic purpose was to really focus on the user experience. So web app development wasn’t an option. What we needed was the smooth user experience and pretty much native-like performance. So basically, we couldn’t think of going web app development. Although we did want the app for both iOS and Android in a cost-efficient way, it kind of seemed that we couldn’t get all of these that we wanted.
So originally, during the summer for about a month, our plan was to go Android first. So forget about iOS, since it seemed impossible to do all that we wanted to do. However, one of our developers, Jere, who’s here, suggested that we can go Flutter. Maybe that would help solve our problems. So we looked into it. And for our purposes, Flutter seemed to have exactly what we needed– basically, more or less native-like performance, cross-platform development, and it seemed stable enough. However, it was still in this alpha phase, and we were kind of worried, as we were a small startup, and it would be betting our company on a new technology. So we started doing due diligence. And it basically took us two months of looking into the technology, looking into what you can do with it, how stable it is, and so on, to finally decided to go Flutter. And when we did– well, it’s basically the best decision we made. It took us less than half the time of what we took to actually look into the technology to actually develop a first working demo that we could then show to investors and to use for customer testing.
So basically, in one month from the start of coding, we had a working demo for both iOS and Android that we presented in a big Finnish startup event, Slush, in Helsinki, and all of this was basically done by Jere himself. So I am obviously not the technology guy. I’m a business guy. But I had some talk with our developers, or Jere in particular, and the things that came out about Flutter and why it was so great. The two things that he wanted to bring up was, first of all, the customization of user interface. So apparently, the customization of UI features is something that’s quite unique for Flutter and that you can do really easy and really well. But another thing that we already heard people talk here about is the hot reload with states option that radically speeds up product development. And in terms of technology, we really haven’t had any issues. So I mean, even though it’s still in alpha stage, it hasn’t caused us literally any problems on the technology front. So as already mentioned, we have now the working beta version that has the back-end integration.
You can use it to manage your social media. At this point, you can do Facebook and Twitter with it. So download it for either iOS or Google or Android for Google Play or from our website hookle.net. So it has all kinds of cool features. It uses all kinds of cool Flutter technology that I don’t know anything about. But when you download it and look how great it is, you can ask Jere how he did it. Jere, can you stand up? [APPLAUSE] So Jere basically did it himself. So download our app and try to break it, because you’re testing it. You’re beta testing it. So try to break it, and if you can break it, tell Jere what you did and he’ll fix it. Thank you. [APPLAUSE].

In 1945 some workers in Egypt accidentally dug into an early Christian hidden teachings of the bible that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness Gregg Braden Jesus law of attraction tomb inside they found a large jar containing 13 leather-bound manuscripts which were composed of 48 separate works practically all of these works are Gnostic meaning they teach salvation through mystical knowledge and one of these manuscripts contains the Gospel of Thomas in Gnosticism people are believed to be souls and material bodies only through true knowledge can they ascend and according to this religion Jesus is the Redeemer who came to communicate that knowledge and liberate man he communicated this knowledge to selected disciples one of them being.
Thomas in almost all spiritual paths or traditions that are followed eventually that which is discovered leads to this same ascension and if these teachings have been placed in the modern Bible the message may possibly have been clearer and more focused on the power that is held within each person the Gospel according to Thomas doesn’t tell a story it’s a compilation of approximately 114 sayings attributed to Jesus the opening words of the document read these are the secret words which Jesus the Living one spoke and didymus Judas Thomas wrote down and he said whosoever finds the interpretation of these sayings shall never taste death let not him who seeks desist until he finds when he finds he will be troubled when he is troubled he will marvel and he will reign over the universe the sayings themselves are not the secret the secret lies in their interpretation when you find the true answers it will trouble you because it goes against most of what you’ve been taught and when the truth of it sets in it will marvel you and then you will know your power that you have supreme reign over your life and everything in it that you truly can experience heaven on earth the Gospel of Thomas has been eliminated from the Bible and there are many explanations as to the reasoning some religious leaders express that if you read it and compare it to what you see in the New Testament it’s a very different kind of book presenting a quite different Jesus they claim that these particular teachings hidden teachings of the bible that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness Gregg Braden.
Jesus law of attraction about Jesus meshed with certain philosophical principles that only grew in popularity but that they aren’t necessary to the work of the Bible how many have heard of the lost gospel of thomas the lost gospel of thomas some of you have heard of that text very very powerful text the lost gospel of thomas is powerful because it is believed to be the actual words of jesus as he was teaching those around him how to use the power of human emotion in his life and if the indigenous people know it and if the ancient people know it why don’t we know it what happened to our knowledge well this is a very good question and the answer is this in our Western tradition and I’m when I say Western I’m assuming that we are of the judeo-christian tradition is what I’m talking about here there was a time when this field and the language of emotion was part of our tradition it was in our texts until the fourth century the year 325 AD in the year 325 something happened our texts were edited and we lost tremendous amounts of information the emperor constantine in the early christian church with the early Christian Bible had to make decisions what information do we include what information do we exclude and what we know now is that at least at least 45 books were either completely taken away or tremendously edited into what we call today our Western biblical tradition and when those edits were made we lost the information that tells us everything is connected we lost the information that tells us the language that speaks to this field we know the information was lost because we are now recovering the information in the Dead Sea Scrolls in the NAG.
Hammadi library in the Coptic texts this is how hidden teachings of the bible that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness Gregg Braden Jesus law of attraction we know this information was lost when we find writings belonging to Jesus that are not recorded in our primary sources but are consistent with the ones that are we are inclined to believe that they do indeed come from him however when the saying seemed to be a bit inconsistent with other teachings we are told they have been edited out due to validity rather than the fact that they are the sacred truths intended to be passed into the hands of all people but they have only been reserved for a few any spotlight on the belief that each person is filled with the same higher power as Jesus rather than it being an outside force to be feared would have changed everything we know about life in our entire history because we are each different does not make us separate we are all a part of the same one consciousness simply taking different forms here are some of the sayings of Jesus from the Gospel according to Thomas and their possible interpretations verse number 3 if those who lead you say to you see the kingdom is in the sky then the birds of the sky will precede you if they say to you it is in the sea then the fish will precede you rather the kingdom is inside of you and it is outside of you when you come to know yourselves then you will become known and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the Living father but if you will not know yourselves you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty this teaching refers to the consequences of believing that power is outside of the individual if you believe that this ruling power belongs to someone or something else then that thing will hold dominion over your life however when the realization is made of who we each truly are the one consciousness that moves through everything and that all power comes from within we can live in an ascended and rich way the kingdom is inside of you and it is outside of you you literally manifest your outside circumstances from within if you will not know yourselves you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty the belief that outside events and people have control over a person’s life keeps them from living the richness that is rightfully theirs they manifest as they believe verse 27 if you do not fast from the world you will not find the father’s domain if we do not turn away from the things that disturb us and believe in the power within to change all things we will continue to experience that reality in our lives verse 50 if they say to you where did you come from say to them we came from “hidden teachings” of the bible that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness.
Gregg Braden “Jesus” law of attraction the light the place where the light came into being on its own accord and established itself and became manifest through their image if they say to you is it you say we are its children we are the elect of the living father if they ask you what is the sign of your father in you say to them it is movement and repose the word light is used to portray the origin of humans the light is the consciousness of each person manifested as a physical being it is the all in all that exists as each individual consciousness lives through us as activity and awareness verse 77 Jesus said it is I who am the light which is above them all it is I who am the all from me did they all come forth and unto me did they all extend split a piece of wood and I am there lift up the stone and you will find me there this explains that the one consciousness lives within everything what lives in him also lives within all other things first 113 his disciples said to him when will the kingdom come jesus said it will not come by waiting for it it will not be a matter of saying here it is or there it is rather the kingdom of the Father is spread out upon the earth and men do not see it we have always had the power within ourselves but we have lost sight of it it is not something that we have to wait to experience this consciousness is already a part of all things including each person to unleash the force of the divine matrix in our lives first we have to understand how it works and the science tells us how it works secondly we must speak the language that the divine matrix recognizes and science cannot tell us that that comes from our past from our culture from our history from those who have learned and used this language for thousands of years so this is what we’re doing right now we’re learning what did Jesus and what did the great masters say about this this language because it’s the same whether you’re talking Buddhist or Hindu or Christian pre-christian traditions they’re all telling us that there is a field of energy and that we have the language to use that field this is an actual page out of the Gospel of Thomas so we know that this this ancient gospel actually existed and you can you can see some of the letters these are Greek letters you can actually read some of if you know Greek you can see some of the Greek letters right here in the Gospel of Thomas two very important keys this was written that right around 300 years after the time of Jesus in this gospel okay so here’s what we’re doing we’ve been in the Buddhist monasteries in Tibet and they’re telling us that we must that feeling is the prayer one two that we must feel as if our prayers have already been answered okay and now we’re in an Egyptian monastery with the texts hidden teachings of the bible that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness Gregg Braden.
Jesus law of attraction hidden teachings of the bible that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness Gregg Braden Jesus law of attraction hidden teachings of the bible that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness Gregg Braden Jesus law of attraction that used to be our tradition before they were edited and we’re going to look at the instructions that tell us how to do that okay if we do that it’s a good okay Gospel of Thomas if you have a copy of the Gospel of Thomas this is verse 106 translated from the NAG Hammadi library and if you do not have a copy it’s in our books and you can you can go to any library and pick this up verse 106 look at what the Lost Gospel of Thomas says it says when you make the to thought and emotion 1 so the Gospel of Thomas is talking about thought and emotion it’s saying when you make your thought and your emotion one look at what happens you will say to the mountain mountain move away and the mountain will move away saying that when you can marry your thought in your emotion into one single potent force that is when you have the power to speak to the world secondly when you make the two one what are they talking about what are the two let’s go back to our image the two thought and emotion when the two become one in our hearts we create the feelings in our bodies when thought and emotion become one you’ll see how to do that in just a minute let’s go back to the Gospel of Thomas another verse now this is verse 48 it says almost the same thing this was so important that it was recorded at least three different times in the same Gospel look at what this says if the two make peace with each other in this one house when Jesus is talking about the house or the temple what is he talking about what is he talking about precisely you you are the house you are the temple if the two make peace with each other in this house if thought and emotion become one if they make peace with each other in this house look what happens they will say to the mountain move away and it will move away he’s telling us again in a completely different verse how powerful it is to marry thought in emotion but they still haven’t told us how how do you do this that’s the next piece in the early
Christian Bible your Bible today there is a passage how many have heard ask and ye shall receive have you heard that before ask and you shall receive you heard that I know people that asked and asked and asked and nothing happens because the asking is not done with the voice the asking is not done please please bring this to my world that’s not asking to ask we must speak to the field to the divine matrix in the language that the field recognizes and a language that’s meaningful the field doesn’t recognize our voice it recognizes the power of our heart remember this morning our heart we have a feeling creates electrical waves magnetic waves that’s the language the field recognizes so when you create the feeling in your heart as if your prayer is already answered that creates the electrical and the Magnetic waves that bring that answer to you in the Bible hidden teachings of the bible that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness Gregg Braden.
Jesus “law of attraction” that you have today the King James Version John 16 23 24 what you have is the condensed version you have the edited version the edited version looks like this this is the edited version whatsoever he ask the Father in my name he will give it to you hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name okay ask and ye shall receive that your joy may be full okay this is the edited version this is so amazing to me because they took out the two sentences that tell us how to ask in the fourth century when the edits happened they took those two sentences out would you like to see those two original sentences okay we’ll go back into the original Aramaic and we’ll look at a new translation this is the original Aramaic it begins it looks very similar so this is the retranslated version with the missing pieces all things that you asked straightly directly from inside my name you will be given it says so far you’ve not done this because if we ask with our voice we have not done this now here’s the piece that was edited here is what was lost look at these two very powerful sentences ask without hidden motive and be surrounded by your answer be enveloped by what you desire that your gladness be full look at what it’s saying it’s not saying the speak a word it’s saying to be surrounded to feel as if if you are surrounded you are feeling as if your answer has already happened be enveloped if you want the perfect relationship in your life if you want the healing in the body of your loved ones feel the feeling of what it is like as if that has already happened be enveloped by what you desire because that is when your thought in your emotion become one you think the thought of the healing in your loved ones and you feel the love of that thought they become one and that is the language that this field recognizes does that make sense are you okay with that you’re going to see an example of this another example here in just a moment hidden teachings of the bible that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness Gregg Braden Jesus law of attraction ask without hidden motive what does that mean hidden motive ask without judgment this is precisely what the Buddhists are telling us ask without the judgment of the right or the wrong or the good or the bad ask without the ego ask from the heart is this meaningful to you is this helpful at all let me give you an example then because to be if it says be surrounded that means to feel as if to feel as if now if that sounds too religious because it’s from the Bible we smoked spoke this morning about Nevel the the philosopher.
Nevel early in the 20th century his book the power of awareness look at what he says it’s the same thing Nevel says you must make your future dream a present fact now by assuming the feeling of your wish fulfilled to come from the place that that’s already happened now this is what those practitioners did with that cancerous tumour I want to just elaborate on this a little bit when those practitioners healed the woman with her tumor this morning they did not judge the cancer is wrong or bad or right or good there was no judgment they accept that tumor as a possibility one of many possibilities because in the quantum world all things are possible so they didn’t say bad cancer you must go away or we’re going to operate on you or we’re going to use radiation on you they didn’t do that they accepted the cancer as it was without hidden motive without judgment and they said now we’re going to choose a new reality by feeling assuming the feeling as if the woman is already healed so what they did was they felt the feeling as if the woman was fully healed fully enabled fully capacitated already happened in the the chant that they were using Wassa Wassa loosely translates into the words already done already done and then when they got excited they said mate mate mate means now now now not a year from now not a month from now not five minutes from now now in the quantum world now and her body responded it must physical reality must respond to the language that it understands so in the Buddhist traditions they are telling us the quality of the feeling and in the judeo-christian traditions they are giving us the instructions to be surrounded to be enveloped how to create that feeling and when you put those all together it’s something that happens in our hearts not in our minds feeling as if the prayer is already answered with “hidden teachings of the bible” that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness.
Gregg Braden Jesus law of attraction no judgment and no ego and feeling from the result feeling from the result as if it’s already happened are there any martial artists here in the room karate experts I studied martial arts when I was in my 20s and 30s a little bit my 40s and 50s have you seen martial artists when they demonstrate their focus by breaking a concrete block have you seen that you’ve all seen that before right okay here’s the secret here is the secret to breaking that block when the martial artist is focused on that block the very last thing that they are thinking is about their hand hitting the block because if they think about that they know it will hurt so they focus on what happens after their hand has passed through the block as if it has already happened they focus on a place below the block and feel the feeling as if their hand is already in that place that is a metaphor that is an equivalent for what we’re doing with the power of emotion feeling as if the experience has already happened the Gospel of Thomas represents our connection to consciousness and all that is it is the knowledge that liberates man if a person does not experience this higher consciousness they believe themselves to be separate alone and simply a victim of circumstance to break free from any manifested reality that does not serve what a person desires the false image of the self must be replaced with the true knowledge of who and what we each are and the power that we each possess hidden teachings of the bible that explain manifestation, consciousness and oneness Gregg Braden Jesus law of attraction

11 feet, 11 feet. It’s no secret that carnivals exist to make money And to do this most effectively, they do a bunch of little tricks to make you overestimate your chances of winning in some cases to such an extent that it’s basically a scam. So I spent a couple days coming down to this carnival and observing and collecting data on all the games. So I’m now I’m going to tell you exactly which games are the biggest ripoffs and the scientific reasons why. I even nancy drewed how much they actually pay for the prizes you can win. But there is hope…because I’ll also show you some legitimate tricks on how to the most popular games and along with what happens when you show up to the carnival with your professional baseball playing buddy who happens to play for the Mets.
Let’s get started! Any kind of legitimate investigation needs to start with solid data as the foundation. So with the promise of unlimited churros, I had some friends secretly help me collect data on all 24 games at the Carnival for a full day. Not only did we collect how how many times each game was played but we recorded how many times people actually won each game and what prize they won.
And so the first observation was that based on our data is tht this relatively small park this place makes $20k/day just on their carnival So to help frame the rest of the observations, let’s divide the games into 3 groups. 1st, You’ve got your Random chance games- Games like these that don’t utilize any skills and are basically rolling a dice. 2nd you’ve got your Skill based games Like basketball shot or the milk bottle throw or the basket toss game where if you bring some kind of skill or strategy to the table you can increases your chances of winning And the final category are the games that are pretty much Impossible- These ones are borderline scams. There are 3 games that lots of people attempted and nobody won, and if they did win once like in the case of the ladder climb it was for a very specific reason, which I’ll talk about later.
So let’s start by talking about the random chance games. Calculating your chances of winning chances here is pretty straightforward. You just divide winning outcomes by the total outcomes and you’ll get a percentage. So in this case there are about about 1600 total cups and 160 winning cups. That’s about 10% chance or 1 in 10 throws will win. There are a ton of games similar to this. But catch is they always use balls that are light weight and have a high coefficient of restitution meaning they bounce really well. The makes it much less likely the ball will end where you originally aim it. To illustrate this point, think how much easier this game would be with bean bags which are heavier with and don’t bounce. Any imperfection in your throw is magnified, which essentially randomizes things. If you have no skills these are the games you want to play. But don’t’ get too excited because even when you win you lose. I did some investigative work and uncovered the sources they order their prizes from and discovered even If you got lucky on your first throw that would cost you $for a prize that that cost them 45 cents.
But you usually won’t get it on your first try and treating this as expected value problem it would take you average (7/30) 5 tries to land in a yellow cup for a small prize which means you pay $for something that costs 45 cents. In the case of the big prize by landing in the rare gold cup it’s worse and would take an average of 25 tries, which works out to $38 for a prize that costs them $6. The number of people we observed winning matched up well with these statistical predictions. Now let’s talk about the skill based games. One of the most popular the basketball toss with 825 the day we obseved. A standard 3 pointer is about 24 feet back on a 10 foot rim.
In this case however, the line is 28ft back on a rim 11 feet high. Which is subtle but if you have a deadly 3 pointer locked into your muscle memory you will tend to miss short which is exactly what happened a bunch. The reason they always have all big sloped tarp in front is so that someone can’t stand underneath the rim where they height difference would be much more apparent. Here again though even if you go Steph Curry and sink your first $3 shot, you still lose cents because this ball costs them 80 cents Here is another example of getting you to overestimate your chances of winning by making subtle changes by slanting the table which will reduce the horizontal velocity after the bounce so even if you played this game all through college your previous experience almost becomes a handicap. This measure your pitch speed game is borderline fraudulent as their Radar gun registers about 15mph slow. I know this because I measured the distance and then filmed in high speed and counted the frames and this pitch was much closer to 84 mph.
For the milk bottle game the only catch here is that the bottles are metal which makes them more stable and harder to knock down than a normal bottle that size. I’ve seen some carnivals where they are bottom weighted which would make them even more stable and thus less likely to tip. You can ask to hold it use the trick of balance it on your finger to determine where the center of mass is. They key to this game is hitting them right here with a hard enough throw to introduce sufficient kinetic energy but don’t throw it too hard because we noticed those who threw their hardest usually compromised on accuracy. About 1 in 14 of people knocked them over on their first try. And then finally the basket toss game. The key here is to have your first bounce hit on the front lip to reduce the kinetic energy enough so it doesn’t rebound out.
About 1 in 10 people win this game according to our observations. And now this brings us to our final category of the near impossible games and there are three of them. On this first one, the goal is to shoot out the red star with this automatic bb gun. So the best strategy is to basically shoot a circle around the start to cut it out. Not only are the guns not accurate or precise but the bigger issue is that you start out doing really well because there is enough surrounding paper so the bb will rip through the paper.
But Newton’s 3rd law tells us you can only push on something as hard as it can resist your push and so at the end there will be barely supported pieces of the star that just move out of the way off the bb without building up enough stress to rip the paper. Out of 120 plays we saw no one win this one all day This ring bottle game is also impossibly difficult. Again, it’s a lightweight object that is really bouncy to encourage randomness but the actual inner diameter of the ring is really close to the outer diameter of the bottle. This means any throw besides this perfect one, will send it bouncing away instead of settling in on the bottle. If you really want this bear I suggest going to Amazon and getting it for $47. I literally can’t even tell you how much money that wills save you because of the 840 rings we saw thrown, none stayed on. Which brings up a obvious rule of thumb, if you want to have the feeling of winning a game, don’t play any game that offers really big prizes. And for the final near impossible game let me reiterate that for a carnival owner the most lucrative games are those which the customer over estimates their chances of success.
No game is a better example of this than the ladder climb. There is a subtle issue with this game that I think people realize, but don’t internalize the significance. The ladder converges to be supported on the wall by one point instead of two. If it was attached in two points it’s like crawling across a bridge which is really easy. Let’s pretend this is you and If you shrunk all the weight of your body down to the average location which we call the center of mass, which we’ll mark with this dot. Again, you know this is the spot because it balances perfectly. If you draw two imaginary lines connecting the diffrent support points and as long as your center of mass dot is it is impossible to fall off. But As soon as you center of mass is even a little bit out of the area of supports you start to rotate and fall off. If you’ve ever bent over to pick something up you actually know this fact whether you realize it or not.
In this case the region of support is between the heel and the toes of your foot. When you reach over you will naturally move your butt back to keep your center of mass in between your support points. If you don’t believe me try picking something up standing against a wall so you can move your butt back, at the very moment your center of mass moves beyond your toes, you tip over. In the case of the ladder game even though it looks wide because of the ladder rungs, it’s only attached at one point but even though it looks wide because of the ladder rungs that area of support reduces down to a line.
So So if you don’t keep your center of mass directly above that line you will start to rotate and fall off. In other words, to win this game you basically need to crawl across a tightrope. And you might think we’ll I can do a slack line so I can do this but a slack line is actually much easier for 2 reasons You can flail your arms and legs out to adjust your center of mass to keep it above the line of support and your center of mass is higher up which makes you more stable In the same way it’s easier to balance this umbrella when it’s extended vs. when collapsed. So while there are a few videos that say tricks like maintain three points of contact at all times, they’re basically useless because keeping your center of mass directly above a line is just something you need get a feel for that takes a lot of practice.
But once you’ve had enough practice you this is the one game at the carnival that is all skill. So you can win everytime and clean them out. Unfortunately, the carnival owner knows this which is why it’s the only game with this super lame caveat. So now that we were carnival experts, I called up my buddy Matt Winaker who played baseball for Stanford and was just recently drafted to play for the New York Mets So we could maximize the chance of winning any game relating to throwing So clearly Matt had deadly lock on any throwing game But basketball is more my game so to finish off the day I decided to bring his ego back into check As it turns out, if you are a world class athlete in one sport you are a really, really good athlete in all sports. So in conclusion, you should play the games if you think they’re fun just know that the odds are heavily stacked against so if you don’t win it’s nbd unlike this dude who lost his life savings playing carnival games. And if your motivation is to gain the love and admiration of someone special by means of a stuffed animal you don’t need a carnival to do that.
Amazon works just as well. “A little purchse for you ma lady” Why? I like to learn new stuff. I recently got a new camera but user manuals are lame. So I went online to skillshare.com who were also kind enough to support this video and followed along with my camera as an expert axplained via video all the different buttons and functions and It was super useful and way better than trying to read a black and white manual. – How’s it going, guys? Julian Bradley here from themusicalear.com. Today I’m gonna teach you the important parts of reading music. So, is reading music important? Yes it is, I think every musician should learn to read music, at least the basics, which I’m gonna show you in this video. For one, I know quite a few musician friends who are great musicians, but they’ve never learned to read music and I could just see that there’s a source of insecurity for them, they lack confidence, and it always comes up in conversation when we’re talking about music. So, reading music doesn’t have to take long to learn. In fact, I’d say you could do most of the grasping of it in 10 minutes, which is the goal of this video. Obviously after that, you might have to practice it for a few weeks, maybe two weeks. But really, it’s fairly simple, and I’m gonna break down the important things which I think everyone needs to know in this video, enjoy.
(upbeat techno music) So first rule, reading music tells you two things: tells you pitch and it tells you rhythm. Now pitch basically means which notes to play, and rhythm means when to play those notes. So, pitch is the important part. As far as I’m concerned, pitch is the really important part, and the good news is pitch is the easy part to learn. Rhythm, however, is the hard part to learn, It takes a lot longer to learn all these different rhythms, different note lengths, different rest lengths, all these dotted things, triplets, everything. And it’s not as important. For one, you could just listen to the piece of music and learn the rhythm just by listening to it once through. You can also sort of see the rough idea of how the rhythm should sound just by looking at the music, how the notes are spaced out, and all of that. So in my opinion, if you’re just interested in learning the basics of reading music, then don’t worry about rhythm.
Rhythm is what takes a lot of time to learn, that’s what intimidates most people from learning to read music, and, in my opinion, is not that important. (light techno music) So, there are different types of clef, there are two main types of clef, which are treble clef and bass clef. You could think of treble clef as the right hand on the piano, it’s the upper part, and bass clef as the left hand on the piano, it’s the lower part. Now the way music works with any stave is the lines and the spaces are each their own note.
So to move up a note, you go from a line to a space, to a line to a space. The space means the space between the two lines. So with the treble clef, the bottom line is an E, (piano chord chimes) and then the bottom space is an F, (piano chord chimes) then the second line is a G, (piano chord chimes), the second space is an A, (piano chord chimes) and then it just goes up from there.
So, B, C, D, E, and F. (piano scale music) Now the easy way to identify notes quickly is to use an acronym to remember the five lines. So, the common one I was always taught is, “Every Good Boy Deserves Food,” and, really catchy, I know, but it stuck and that’s what I’ve always used. And if you have your own acronym that you use, please post it in the comments below. So, Every for E, Good for G, Boy for B, Deserves for D, and Food for F. And then some people like to do the same for the spaces, and they’ll use the word FACE, which is what the spaces spell out.
But if you’d like, you could just use the lines to remember the spaces. So for example, you have E, G, B, well, B plus one is gonna be C, or D plus one is going to be E. Now the other thing to mention is that these aren’t just any old E, not just any old G, any old B. These are actually specific notes within a specific octave. So with the treble clef, the bottom E is specifically the E above middle C on the piano. (light techno music) Now, it’s also possible for these notes to go above and below the stave. So there’s just five lines, but obviously these notes can go above those notes and when this happens, we use what’s called ledger lines. And these are pretty logical, they’re basically just lines which get added to that note, so that you can measure up beyond the top F and below the bottom E. And it gets a bit tricky sometimes to read these ledger lines ’cause you’re not often looking at them. But sometimes you have to sort of count up, literally, every single note, and that’s fine, that’s natural. (uplifting techno music) So next up, we have the bass clef.
Now, with the bass clef, unfortunately, we don’t have the same letters, although it could very nearly be the same as E, G, B, D, F, it’s a bit of a shame. We actually have to learn a new acronym to remember this one. I guess it’s not an acronym, a rhyme though, to remember the lines. So with the bass clef, the lines go G, B, D, F, and A. (piano scale music) Some people use Good Boys Deserve Fine Apples, some people use Grizzly Bears Don’t Fear Anything, and in fact, I actually prefer the ones that don’t have Good Boys Deserve, because you can get confused with the treble clef and the bass clef, since they’re both very similar. So I woulde use Grizzly Bears Don’t Fear Anything, because there’s less likely that you’ll get confused with the treble clef. Now it’s also important to know where on the keyboard these five notes are, G, B, D, F, A.
So the way to remember the register is that middle C is one ledger line above the top line of the bass clef. So this is actually a good way that you can remember both the treble clef and the bass clef. They’re actually sort of like a mirror of each other because on the treble clef, middle C is one ledger line below the bottom line, and then with the bass clef, middle C is one ledger line above the top line. So if you take nothing else from this lesson, you can just remember where middle C is, then from that, you can either count up or count down and figure out any notes. So it might take you some time, but that’s certainly something you can do as a last resort method.
(light techno music) Now in music, any of these notes can be sharpened, which means raised up half step, and any of these notes can be flattened, which means they’re lowered a half step. Now, the way that we write a sharp is like this, so you’ll see this little sign, it’s basically the pound sign on a phone, and it will appear just before the note which is to be sharpened. So see if you can tell me which note we’re looking at here.
Well, it’s the lowest space in the treble clef, which means it is, that’s right, an F, and there’s a sharp sign in front of it, which means it’s an F sharp. Now, to flatten a note, we have this sign, basically like a tiny B, and it goes just in front of the note which is to be flattened. So let’s see if you can work out which note this is. So, it’s treble clef, we’ll use the rhyme, Every Good Boy, so its’ a B, and there’s a flat sign in front of it, which means it’s a B flat. Now once and sharp or a flat sign has been used, it doesn’t just affect that one note. It also affects any repeats of that note for the rest of that bar. So if there was another F, or another two or three F’s played after that F sharp, well they well all be made F sharps. Or if there’s another B after that B flat, well that will also be played as a B flat as well.
And then once you get to the next bar, you’ll get a bar line, which is a vertical line, then it resets and then any B’s or F’s will be B naturals after that. Now there’s also a natural sign, which looks like this, and this symbol basically undoes the effect of the sharp or the flat from earlier in the bar. So say you had the F sharp, but then on the repeat of the F sharp, you actually had this natural sign just before it, that would mean it’s back to F natural again, and then if there were any repeats of that F in the rest of the bar, it would be played a natural. So this natural also gets used, and it’s basically a way to undo the effect of the sharp or the flat.` (light techno music) And one final point to make on sharps and flats is that the very beginning of the piece, you might have what’s called a key signature. Key signature is basically a display of sharps or flats. So you might have say F sharp and C sharp at the very beginning of the piece before the music even starts.
And it basically means that this will be valid throughout the piece. So every time you see and F, it’s gonna be an F sharp, every time you see a C, it’s gonna be a C sharp. (light keyboard music) Now at the beginning of the video, I said I wasn’t gonna cover rhythm, however there is one thing I just wanna say on rhythm, and that’s about time signatures. So, if you look at the beginning of the piece of music, just as I said, there’s a key signature, you’ll also see a couple of numbers on top of each other and this is what’s called the time signature. Now these two numbers tell you what type of time signature the piece of music’s in.
So there’re various time signatures, could be in 4/4, most common, it could be 3/4, could be 6/8, could be 7/8, 5/8, all these different time signatures. Now the important number is the top number. So, it tells you how many beats are in the bar. So if you see 4/4, that means there are four beats in the bar: one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four, one, two, three, four. If it’s 3/4, that means there are three beats in the bar: one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, which has more of a waltz feel, for example. If it is 6/8, then it has a sort of swing type of feel: one, two, three, four, five, six, one, two, three, four, five, six, one, two, three, four, five, six, and so on. And then bottom note is less important. It tells you what type of beat that is. But it’s not too important, whether it’s a four or it’s an eight, usually it’s one of those two.
So that can also be useful to understand what those two numbers at the beginning of the music are, well, it’s the time signature. (soft keyboard music) So finally, I’m just gonna go over a few remaining notation markings, which you’ll also encounter in music. First up, we have dynamics, what are dynamics? Well it means how loud or soft you want to play. So generally, you have P and you have F. So you’ll see these F’s and these P’s scattered about the music. F stands for fortissimo, and it means play it loud, and P stands for piano, which means play it quietly. Now, sometimes composers will stack up the F’s, which means basically the more F’s, the louder.
Same with the P’s, goes down to about triple P, it’s pretty rare to see anything beyond that. You’ll also get MF and MP, and that just means mezzo forte or mezzo piano, mezzo basically means medium. So you’ll have medium loud and medium quiet. So if we just take a look at this diagram, you’ll basically see from the far left, you have the quietest going through to the far right, where you have the loudest. And another dynamic marking you’ll also see is the sort of hairpin notation. So when the hairpin expands to the right, this is called a crescendo, it means get louder. And then when a hairpin gets smaller to the right, that’s a diminuendo, and that means get quieter. (soft techno music) Now if you’re a piano player, you’ll also encounter pedal markings. Basically, you’ll see a sustained line below the stave. As long as that line is sustained, it means hold down the pedal. And then when there’s a break in it, it means clear the pedal, and then it will start again. (soft piano jazz) Now finally, you’ll want to practice this, it’ll probably take a couple of weeks to engrain everything which I’ve just shown you.
Now there are two ways to practice reading music. The first is to find some sheet music and practice sight-reading. Now, I’ll put a link below this video to some of my free sheet music as my 5 Note Extravaganza piece, which is a medley I posted recently, comes with a backing track. (soft piano jazz music) And the second way is to practice notating your own compositions, so maybe have a piece of music you play, you’ll practice finding the notes and writing them out on the stave.
(light techno music) So I really hope this video has boosted your confidence, I hope you can now look at a piece of music and feel that you can find your way around it, you can work out the pitches, the dynamics, the pedal marks, the time signature, key signature, I hope this has really boosted your confidence at reading music ’cause it shouldn’t be something that holds you back. Now, if you enjoyed this video, I would really appreciate a thumbs up. Make sure you don’t miss out on future videos by subscribing to my channel, and I have a free giveaway which is eight of my license-free music tracks, so these are compositions just like the ones you heard in the interlude for this video, and these are license-free music, which means you can use these in your own creative projects, whether it’s video-making, podcasts, gaming, whatever, you can use these for whatever you’d like. And you can also check out my complete course in ear training at themusicalear.com, this is where I teach you how to play music by ear, which is the other side of things.
And I’ll take you step-by-step from beginner to advanced, I’ll show you how to play at least 95 percent of music by ear. So thanks very much for watching, and I look forward to seeing you again next time. (light techno music).
