Montreal Lightspeed Local Event | L’évenement Lightspeed Local à Montréal | French

I’m here to see what Lightspeed does behind the scenes, and discover their work environment. I really had no clue, and we’ve been working with them for 2 years now. It saves us so much time and energy. Everything’s linked, my accounting, my bottom line, all that. I think it’s pretty awesome. We use it in so many ways… It helps our productivity, generates our reports. It helps to improve on different sales statistics. We use all the basics, but we could do even more. I think we have more to learn..

Speed of Light, Microwave Oven and How It Works

Hi I was gonna make a different video but then I thought to myself Microwaves You need to know how Microwaves work *Hit the camera* Ouch S**t See a Microwave outputs very high power high frequency Electromagnetic waves inside the oven cavity Injected right from here This channel is a waveguide which is responsible to guide the waves inside the oven cavity. And hence the name Wave Guide Basically guides the… waves… Most things like food have polar molecules which is kind of like this magnet. Except that the polar molecule have electric polarity like water molecules. Now if I bring another magnet close by… S**t.*Beep* You see that the changing field makes my polar molecule move. *dududududu* See, the water is boiling :v Now , the Electromagnetic waves also keep oscillating in a microwave. So, if there’re polar molecules like water existing in the chamber.. Those waves make the Molecules switch direction very fast. The friction between the Molecules increase the Thermal Energy and food heats up. So, the first question that naturally comes to mind is that..
If I leave an LED in the Microwave, would it turn on? I mean there is a lot energy in there so it’s bound to turn on. I’m going to put a white LED in the Microwave and see if it turns on under the energy of the Microwave. There..*PEEP* *duuuuuuuu* *le sparks appear* Oh S**t *BEEP* *camera moving violently* :v Ohh.. noouu.. My LED is burning huh..hu I suppose that not how an LED should turn on. And that’s why you should’ve even put the smallest piece of metal in microwave Well I was hoping to pour a bucket LED’s in the Microwave and see how the areas with the higher energy are lit brighter.
See, the waves coming out of the Wave Guide continuously reflect from the metal walls creating standing waves. This means there’re energy peaks and valleys in the 3D space in the chamber. There should be another way to see them.. I have a Cardboard box I’ll place in here and heat it up for 20 to 30 seconds and then look at it with my Thermal Camera.. to see how it looks like.
*PEEP* *PEEP* There.. *PEEP* *Duuuuuuuuuuuu* *Wild Sparks Appear* Oh S**t *Camera moving violently* *PEEP* *Blowing Sound* *BEEP* F**king staples Make sure there is no metal in whatever you put in the microwave Let’s try again.. *PEEP* *PEPEEP* Wow look at this These heat pattern gives you a very good idea of the electromagnetic waves inside the chamber. Now if I just measure the peaks between two closest hotspots.. It would be half the wave length of the waves in the chamber. Which is around… centimeters. So a full wave length is centimeters. Knowing the microwave frequency is Gigahertz by design.. We can calculate the speed of light in which the waves travel at.. to be around.. 308 million meters per second. Which is pretty close to the actual speed of light around 300 million meters per second. Mann.. The Seek Thermal Camera is pretty useful.
In fact I’ll giveaway two of these! to my Patreon at the end of the video. Looking at the wave patterns you can understand why the oven has a rotating plate. This make sure the food is heated more evenly. Let’s try again with rotation.. *PEEP* *PEEEP* There.. Well still some large areas are not heated as well as the others. So you better mix the food halfway and re-heat. Now not everybody has a Thermal Camera “HA HA” :v But I figured a different way. You know these pens that have erasers? The way the eraser works is by heating up the ink and the ink goes invisible. I take a piece of paper and completely coverating this ink. (wut?) This is gonna take forever.. Let’s just cut the container.. *WW1 gun sound* *Idk the hell that sound was :v* Well it wasn’t enough to cover the whole page.. but let’s give it a try. Now we’ll just leave it in there in some mid-height of the microwave and let it heat up for 20 seconds..
*PEEP* *Miniclap* :v *duuuuuuuuuu* There, you see that the ink has been hot in three spots.. And the distance between the closest hotspots is somewhere around.. – centimeters which is consistent with the halfway length of the Microwave. I’ve got a broken Microwave from my friend which I like to further open up and see how it works.. Let’s see what’s broken in there. *PEEP* *unhealthy annoying duuuuuuuu* Now this sound’s terrible.
*PEEP* Whatever.. let’s open it up. I have it open. The system is pretty a straight forward. You can see that the AC lines entered from that corner and feeds it *RIP* *Some random words you might don’t wanna know* *Words full of BEEPS* *RIP* Always make sure the circuit is disconnected from power supply before you start tinkering with it. Same you have to make sure your patient is under anesthesia before you cut them open. Anyway, all those Microwave powers are generated from this. Which is called a Megatron. *♫DROP♫* *♫TRANSFORMERRRSS!♫* *♫DUN DUN DUN♫* :v Oh no sorry.. Urr.. This is a Transformer. This is called a Magnetron. It’s a device build upon the dark arts of electronics. It is basically a high power oscillator resonating.. at Gigahertz when you apply a very high voltage to it.
And it outputs those waves through the Wave Guide into the chamber. Which is placed on the top in this one. If you like to know more about the Megatron *♫TRANSFORMERRRSS!♫* Dammit! I mean the Magnetron I suggest you watch the video of EngineerGuy from link in my description. The high voltage to the M.. MAGNETRON.. comes from this huuge.. *♫TRANSFORMERRRSS!♫* *♫DUN DUN DUN♫* :v THIS BABY TAKES THE 120 VOLT AC AND INCREASES IT UPWARDS OF 2000 VOLTS! AND FEEDS IT TO THE MAGNETRON WHICH RESONATE AND OUTPUTS HIGH POWER WAVES AND THOSE WAVES SHAKES THE POLAR MOLECULES GENERATING MUCH HEAT! And this is a fan.. :v In any case there’re a lot of things I can scavenge from this oven. This huge Transformer.. The Magnetron.. The Motor.. Welp that’s pretty much it.. the rest goes into the Junkyard.
But first let’s unplug this Transformer and power the oven and see what happens.. Apparently the output of the Transformer is between the secondary and the body of the microwave. I just put a wire in here.. to kickstart the arc. *PEEP* *Wild Spark Appear Again* :v HOLY S**T*BEEP* Well that was dangerous.. See.. the output voltage of the Transformer is not high enough to jump across this gap. That’s why I put a thin wire to close the gap a lot and create the channel for the arc.
As soon as you have that channel it can extend over a larger gap if there is enough power available. And that voltage can fry you in a microsecond. So don’t try this at home. While researching the Microwave in the web, I realized there is this extra component in their drawings.. called the “Stirrer” It’s pretty much a fan with metal blades rotating right in front of the Wave Guide and it’s like a bunch of moving mirrors that reflects the waves in all these different directions. It tries to make sure that there are no fixed standing waves or hot and cold spots in the chamber unlike what you saw from my thermal imaging. It’s keep moving those hotspots around.. resulting in a more uniform heating of the food. Well, obviously as you saw from my thermal image, my oven doesn’t have it.
Or this one. I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen that before although it sounds like a good idea. It would be good to know if your oven have it. So, when you have it on look directly into the Wave Guide and see if there is any metal blades.. *pls don’t* :v I’m obviously joking about looking directly into the Wave Guide. Don’t do it or you will have mashed potato for brain.
I’m nervous now.. What if somebody pause the video before I said it was a joke.. To go look inside the Wave Guide while it’s running. On a bright side, it could help make the future generations smarter by natural selection. (Wtf?) XD *Fast Forward Scene Of Him k* This Transformer is pretty much the entire weight of the oven. And it’s my new pride and joy.
*Another Fast Forward Scene Yeah* And I don’t quite know what I can do with the Magnetron besides causing cancer.. *Final Fast Forward Scene I Promise* Aannd I have a strange-looking AC Motor *♫DUN DUN♫* *♫GIVEAWAY TIME♫* Do you like to know who’s the hottest among your friends? Well the Seek Thermal Camera can help you with that. But considering I’m reaching 1 Million Subscriber it must be me! The Seek Thermal Camera is an awesome tools for troubleshooting and research. So I’ll pass two of them to my beloved patreons at patreon.com Also I’ll leave a link to the products in my video description. Patreons man.. There’re making my channel happen So, Hili Mamnoon Which in English means “Much Thank” But man, I’m reaching 1 Million Subscribers anytime now. Huh? What The? *1 hour later* *Clap* There! Back on the path of glory! Anytime Now! *RIP* Please Subscribe to my channel and do the Bell to receive notifications.. What else?.. Drop a Like? And I still need to figure out what to do to celebrate the 1 Million Subs So..
Leave a suggestion below while you’re at it. Thanks! *Sick Beatbox Playing* :v.

PHP07.1 Example: Lightspeed

Let’s put together an example using some of the things we’ve seen at this point. What I’d like to do in this example is I’d like to put together a page that, given the known speed of light and a certain number of days, let’s calculate how far light would travel in that number of days. I’m going to start off here in my example file by jumping up to the top of the page and I’m going to put in a set of PHP tags where I’ll do some of the basic calculations, some of the basic gathering of data that’s going to be necessary for the rest of this script.
Let me start off by creating a lightspeed variable. As a matter of fact, instead of creating a lightspeed variable, since the speed of light never changes let’s create a lightspeed constant. I’m going to use the define function, I’m going to create a new variable called lightspeed and I’m going to set it to 186,000 miles per second. I’ll put a comment in here, miles per second. There we go. And let’s say the other piece of data that we know is a particular number of days. For that I’m going to create a days variable because that’s something that potentially in the future we may want to change. Let’s say seven days. How far will light travel in a week, basically. Once I have those two basic pieces of data I could then use those to figure out exactly what I need, the actual distance that’s traveled.
Since the speed of light I have is in miles per second and what I basically want to figure out here is miles per day, what I need to do is I need to take the number of days, seven, and I need to convert that into seconds. Let me do that by creating a seconds variable and to get the value of seconds I’m going to take whatever the current value of my days variable is and I’m going to multiply it by 24 – that’ll tell me the number of hours in that number of days. Then I’m going to multiply that by 60, which will tell me the number of minutes in that number of hours. And then I’ll multiply that by 60 again so now I have the number of seconds in the number of minutes in the number of hours in that number of days. To actually figure out the distance then, which I’ll keep in a new variable I’m going to call distance, what I’ll do is I’ll simply take my number of seconds and I’ll multiply that by my lightspeed constant. At that point I should have then figured out the distance, the number of miles essentially, that light will travel in the number of days that was given in my days variable.
Now to actually show the user the output I’d like to put together something like a sentence that describes to them everything that’s been done here, all of the relevant data and the answer. Down in the body of my document I’m going to put in a set of PHP tags and in those PHP tags I pretty much want to put together a echo statement, or a series of echo statements. I could say echo In $days days, echo – let me put a comma there. I will say light will travel; I’ll put in my distance value. And I’ll do another echo and I’ll say miles. There we are. Let’s see how that looks when I run it in my browser. Uh-oh, looks like I’ve made a mistake in there.
Line 23, the error message is saying that I’m missing a semicolon. Line 23? Looks like I have a semicolon there, doesn’t it? What have I done wrong? Oh, I see I’ve missed the period I needed right there in order to append those two strings together. Let me try it again in the browser. There we go. It says In 7 days, light will travel big-gigantic-number of miles. Looks like it’s doing pretty well. If I come back over and I change the number of days – maybe I’ll make it 17 days – it recalculates based on the new value for days and it looks like everything’s working fine. One thing I can see here that I might want to do that I could use to clean this up a little bit is instead of doing this with three echo statements I could essentially do that with just one. What if I used string interpolation with the double quotes and I said In $days days, light will travel $distance miles.
Let me get rid of the three echoes I had down here below. I’ll take a look at that in the browser. Same output, but the actual code for it, I think, is quite a bit clearer using the string interpolation. I like it. So that’s pretty much all that was required in order to accomplish what I wanted in this example. The only thing I can think about it to point out is the separation that I put in between the two batches of PHP code. Essentially what I did was all of my pre-calculations, all of my working with the data, more or less everything that didn’t actually produce or need to produce any output I put into a set of PHP tags above the document and then the only PHP code I put inside within the HTML itself was the HT–the PHP code that actually needed to provide output.
I like this basic sort of set up. Of course HTML, CSS, JavaScript can get cluttered and busy all on their own; throwing a bunch of unnecessary PHP code into that part of the file just makes it that much more difficult to read and that much more difficult–er, that much more likely that you might have problems. So splitting the code up this way I think makes it a lot cleaner, a lot easier to read, a lot easier to debug..

PHP08.1 Example: Lightspeed with Links (GET Requests)

Let’s take a look at how we can provide the user with the ability to choose the number of days that the calculation for lightspeed will be based on. I’m going to start off by removing some of the code that I put in in the last example. I’m not going to create a PHP variable here and in my link that will take me over to the lightspeed page I don’t actually want to include the days here that I just removed. I think I’m also then going to go ahead and take this hyperlink that I’ve created and I’m going to instead turn it into an unordered list. Let me make this an unordered list. I’m going to put a list item element inside of it. I’m going to take the hyperlink that I was using before to go to the lightspeed page and I’m going to make that first list item.
What I think I’ll then do this instead of having the user just generically see the text go to lightspeed, go to the lightspeed, I’m going to put the number one there and I’m going to with that particular link include days=1 as my URL parameter. I’m going to then duplicate that a few times. Let’s also do a days=7 where I’ll show the number 7 to the user and use 7 as the value for the days parameter. Maybe I’ll do a 30 day link, 30 for what the user sees and the days parameter’s value. And let’s do a 365, how far does light travel in a year. Something along those lines. If I jump back over to my browser and take a look at that now what I’ve essentially done is I’ve given the user a number of different options that they can click on so that they can select the number of days.
If I click on the number 1 they’re taken over to the lightspeed page and the calculation is based on the number 1. If I go back and I click on the number 7 we go to the lightspeed page and now the calculation is being based on the number 7, different number of miles. 365? There we are. So I’ve been able to, using this technique, provide the user with a number of different options. Now, I would say that this is a fairly pivotal moment in us learning about PHP because this is really when PHP starts to be dynamic, starts to actually sort of earn the work that goes into it in a lot of ways because what we’ve essentially done at this point is from the user’s point of view we’ve made it appear that there are essentially five different pages: there is the page where they’re able to select the number of days and then depending on which link they click they get a custom output, a custom page based on which one of those four links they clicked on.
What most users will never realize is that every time they click on one of these links they are actually just being taken to the same page. When I click the 1 I go to the page lightspeed.php and the 1 value is passed. If I click on 365 I still go to the lightspeed page. So even though from the user’s point of view it appears that we have something like five pages, in actuality we of course only have the two. We have the one page where the user clicks the link, effectively deciding what input will be given to the lightspeed page, and then we have the lightspeed page itself which, using the get variable, the $_GET variable that we saw in the last video, we’re able to pick up the actual input that the user provided based on what link they clicked on and we’re then able to customize the output from that page based on the user’s input.
So we’ve created two pages, but it appears to the user that there is a lot more of a custom, multipage experience actually taking place there. It’s this basic idea that I would say is most core to the abilities that we get based on server-side scripting that we wouldn’t have without it. There are ways we could do things like this with something like JavaScript for example, but this is going to continue and get more and more powerful as we go forward going well beyond anything that JavaScript could ever do on its own, allowing us to create all kinds of amazing websites.
Things like Google, things like Facebook, things like Twitter, things like Amazon. None of those different web applications would be possible if it wasn’t for server-side scripting and this is basically the point we’re at in PHP when we can start to begin to see a glimmer of what we’re going to be able to create as we continue to move forward. One last detail that I might point out about this particular technique of passing values as URL parameters is that there is a potential security or privacy issue that could crop up here. Obviously what we’re doing here is fairly limited and of course extremely benign in this case, but one thing that you should be completely aware of, completely conscious of, is the way that these get parameters are passed are always as a part of the URL, which means that whenever I click one of those hyperlinks the actual value that I clicked on, the input, in essence, that I’m giving the browser, becomes an actual part of the URL itself and can be seen here in the address bar.
Because it can be seen in the address bar that means that it is also being added to the browser’s history, it also means that it could be bookmarked. Now, neither of those things are necessarily bad; in some cases they may actually be good. For example, if a user wanted to be able to email to someone else the result of a calculation that would show how far light would travel in 7 days, it would in that case be a benefit that a user could go straight to this URL that specifies 7 days and could share that link with other people so they would see the exact same output. But we want to be very conscious going forward that we don’t ever want to put any private, sensitive, or security-related information into a get parameter because that information would also be not only viewable, visible, there in the address bar to anybody who happened to be watching, but could also potentially end up being a part of the browser’s history or a part of a bookmark which could then become a bit of a security issue.
Something to be aware of as we continue to go forward..
